Data Centre Technician

Data Centre Technicians support the physical infrastructure of data centres, managing hardware deployment, troubleshooting, and ensuring environmental stability.

 

Responsibilities

  • Install, cable, and troubleshoot servers and network devices.
  • Perform physical maintenance and diagnostics on data centre hardware.
  • Monitor data centre conditions and manage inventory.

  • Follow procedures for asset tracking and change control.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security standards.

 

Key Skills

  • Knowledge of server hardware and components.
  • Familiarity with environmental controls (power, cooling).
  • Ability to perform manual tasks such as racking equipment.
  • Basic networking and troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Organizational skills and attention to documentation.

 

Recommended Certifications

  • CompTIA Server+.
  • BICSI Technician Credential (optional).
  • Data Centre Technician Certification (DCTC) – Uptime Institute.
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
